Bob Seger wrote this song for his son when he was born as a reminder that though life will have its ups and downs that he will need to stay strong and go on the right path and that he’d be fine in life. It’s a fatherly wisdom being imparted to his son song. I bought the best of Bob Seger cassette and this song was on it and the meaning was on the sleeve cover. I’d never heard the song before, but it quickly became one of my favorites from him and when my brother had a son, I thought of the song often. My favorite part is ‘fields of green will tumble through your summer days’ and every time I see a green field, I think of this song.
