Isaac Slade I believe is Christian, but that's not the reason he wrote the song. In fact, when asked he never mentions God or religion. He wrote the song as a lullaby to comfort his little brother at night when he can't sleep. So I agree with the anon that stated you can interpret it how you want, but never did Slade mention God when speaking about it. He's the link to the interveiw I got the information from.
